Description
The William Caxton Inn, located at No 11 on the south side of West Cross, dates back to 1715. The western half of the building features a timber frame that has been refaced with roughcast on the ground floor, while the upper level is covered in tile hanging. It has a steeply pitched hipped tiled roof with an old brick chimney and modern windows. The eastern half is an early 19th-century addition that uses matching materials. The structure consists of two parallel ranges, with the ground floor in roughcast and the first floor tile-hung. The building is two storeys high and has eight windows. The William Caxton Inn, along with No 9, forms a group with all the listed buildings on the east side of Smallhythe Road, from Nos 1 to 17.
