Description
Nos. 63 to 73 on Bridge Street is a terrace row dating from the 16th to 17th century, with cladding added between the 17th and 19th centuries. The buildings are timber framed and covered with red brick, while the first floor is tile hung. The right end of the terrace (No. 73) features 17th century or earlier brick in header bond on a ragstone plinth, and the left return is weather boarded. The roof is plain tiled and the terrace is canted in three sections along the road.
The buildings are two storeys high, with a decorative band of fish-scale tiles on the first floor and boxed eaves that step out and are hipped to the right. There are chimney stacks located to the left, centre left, centre right, and at the rear. The first floor has four glazing bar sash windows, a 20th-century casement, a wooden casement, and a vertical bar sash. The ground floor features a vertical bar sash, three glazing bar sashes, a 20th-century casement, and a segmentally headed wooden casement. There are six boarded doors and a panelled door to the right, accessed by three steps with an iron rail. The end right house is built on a slightly higher level. The rear of the buildings has extensions from various dates, ranging from the 18th to the 20th century. The uniform treatment, particularly of the tile hanging, conceals the fact that there are two or three separate buildings, with the end right structure possibly having medieval origins.
