Description
Nos. 14 and 16 on Church Street is a house and shop pair with an 18th century exterior that conceals a 17th century or earlier building. The structure is timber framed, clad with red brick and features tile hanging that is ornamental on the front elevation. It has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys tall with an attic. The first floor is tile hung and has a parapet, with the roof hipped to the right, featuring two gabled dormers and stacks at the rear.
On the first floor, there are two glazing bar sash windows, a shallow bay window to the left, and a canted bay window to the right, both with multi-paned lights. The central entrance consists of a panelled door topped by a traceried rectangular fanlight, which is adorned with a dentil pediment supported by pilasters and a frieze. To the left of the entrance is a blocked doorway that has a similar fanlight and doorcase, but with a cornice instead of a pediment. The rear wings are tile hung and partly rendered, leading to a courtyard at the back.
