Description

Mill House and the associated mill and mill race date from the mid-18th century. The house is constructed of red brick and features a timber-framed mill that is weatherboarded, along with a stone and red brick mill race. It has a plain tiled roof.

The house is two storeys high, built on a plinth, and includes a plat band and a moulded modillion eaves cornice beneath a hipped roof, which has stacks positioned at the rear centre right and projecting at the end left. The windows are arranged regularly, with two tripartite glazing bar sashes featuring gauged heads on each floor, a central glazing bar sash on the first floor, and a central door made up of six raised and fielded panels on the ground floor. This door is topped by a traceried rectangular fanlight and is framed by a doorcase with Ionic pilasters, an enriched frieze, and a modillioned pediment. There is also a boarded door located at the end right of the house.

To the right of the house is the mill building, which stands three storeys tall. The ground floor is made of painted brick, with weatherboarding above, and it has a hipped tiled roof. Each floor features one wooden casement window, and there are boarded doors located at the centre left on both the ground and first floors.

Attached to the right of the mill is the mill race, which has masonry walls and extends approximately 50 yards in length. It includes a hatch and walkway, as well as a second hatch further along that controls the flow of the main stream. Both hatches are equipped with wood and iron gates and railed walkways.
