Description
Nos 20 and 20B on High Street is a house and shop with a rear extension used as a residence, dating from the 18th century. The building features walls of painted brickwork in Flemish Garden Wall bond, a plaster moulded first floor band, and plaster moulded and coved eaves. The rear section includes some painted brickwork and roughcast. It has a steep hipped tile roof at the front, with two hipped dormers, while the lower rear wings end in gables. The symmetrical east front elevation consists of two storeys and an attic with three windows, the center of which is blank. The upper sashes are set in reveals, and the ground floor, which serves as a shop, has a plain window on the south side and a splayed bay on the north side, both beneath a canopy supported by brackets. The doorcase features an open pediment with a panelled soffit on carved brackets and thin plain architraves. The long rear wing is irregular and showcases vernacular architectural features.
