Description
Nos. 22 and 24 on West Street are a pair of houses built in 1866. The front walls are made of coursed squared knapped flintwork, featuring a yellow brick plinth, quoins, a first-floor band, rubbed flat arches, and oval arches over the doorways. The west wall is constructed of knapped flint with yellow brick dressings, while the rear walls are made of red brickwork. The houses have a slate roof with cusped decoration on the barge-boards of the gables.
The symmetrical north front elevation has a projecting gabled center and consists of two storeys with a configuration of two, one, and two windows. The windows are casements, and there are four-panelled doors set at an angle on each side of the central feature. The east gable, which faces High Street at an obtuse angle to the main block, is also symmetrical with two storeys and two windows, displaying the same architectural features and the date 1866 in the brickwork. The detailing, including the chimney stacks, has been executed with care.
