Description

This is a house, with a shop incorporated into number 6, dating from the 18th century, and altered in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Rear extensions were also added during the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are of brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, with flat brick arches above the windows, a brick dentil cornice below the parapet, and a stone coping along the parapet. The roof is tiled, with three 20th-century hipped dormers. The east front is symmetrical, with two storeys and an attic, and has three windows. The windows are sash windows set in reveals. The southern half has a mid-Victorian double-fronted shop with original glazing bars in the windows, double half-glazed doors, and a later plain wooden fascia and brick base walls. A plain arched doorway, with a decorative fanlight above and a six-panelled door, is located to the north of centre. The rear (west) elevation facing Brook Street is divided into two parts: the south side is a late 19th-century warehouse elevation retaining original features and a hipped roof, while the north side, set back from the street, has a more informal 20th-century facade.
