Description

Gable House is a medieval timber-framed house, likely altered in the 18th century and substantially renovated with an extension in the late 19th century. The walls are now of brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern, with rubbed flat arches and stone cills. The roof is tiled, with three gables facing the front. The original medieval structure comprised three bays, with a further extension added to the west side to create a shop. The south front elevation is two storeys high with three windows. It features Victorian sash windows, and a neat Victorian shopfront with a cornice supported on brackets, and a doorway. A survey in approximately 1982 revealed the remains of the original medieval hall, including main trusses, posts, and a moulded arch brace spanning the hall.
