Description

The Red House is a rectory that has been converted into a private house. It has a core dating from the 17th century, which is encased in brick from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and has an old plain tile roof. It is a two-storey and attic J-shaped house featuring a central range with seven bays, a two-bay wide and two-bay deep wing to the front on the left, and a two-bay wide cross-wing at the right end.

In the right of the centre bay, there is an 18th-century six-panel door located under a porch with a flat hood supported by brick piers. There is a blind opening in the centre on the first floor, along with four 18-pane sash windows that have thick glazing bars and rubbed brick arches. The left wing has an external stack in the centre of the end and openings with rubbed brick arches on both floors, featuring tall 12-pane sashes in all openings except for the bottom right. On the side of the left wing, there are similar openings with sashes on the ground floor.

The right wing includes a 19th-century canted hip-roofed bay, with a 12-pane sash window above and a six-pane sash window in the gable. Both wings have a coved timber eaves cornice at the centre and inside. There is a stack on the ridge to the right of the door and end stacks on the left end.
