Description

The Manor House is a building with medieval origins, constructed in the 17th century and later refronted in the late 18th century. It features a timber-frame core with brick and some stone dressings. The structure has two storeys and consists of a three-bay timber-frame section facing the road, with a two-bay mid-17th century addition to the right and an 18th-century wing added to the front. The front section is a two-storey, three-bay design with a projecting wing on the left. The central doorway has an 8-panel door and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. It is framed by an open Doric porch supported by fluted columns and topped with a full cornice beneath a flat hood. The façade includes five 12-pane sash windows, with larger ones on the ground floor. A parapet with stone coping and flat-roofed dormers sits above the left two bays, while the roof is hipped to the right. The left wing projects one and a half bays and features an early 19th-century four-panel door with a semi-circular fanlight in the corner, along with two 12-pane sashes stacked vertically in the centre. The end of the wing has a 19th-century canted bay window with a reused 12-pane sash in the centre and another 12-pane sash above. The right side of the wing has an added parapet, and the roof is half-hipped. Inside, the late 18th-century interior retains older features, including a wide fireplace with a carved timber fire-surround dated 1652, bearing the initials of the Goldfinch family, who resided there.
