Description

Otterbourne House is a small country house built in the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and converted into flats in the late 20th century. The house is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a slate roof behind a parapet. It has a central three-storey, three-bay double pile block with a full-height bay facing the garden. On either side, there are two-storey wings that are slightly set back; the right wing has two 18th-century bays, while the left wing has four 19th-century bays, including a porch with fluted columns in its right bays, leading to a round-headed door and window.

In front of the left wing, there is a single-storey building with a hip roof, which has two tall openings on the first floor now fitted with casements, above a low parapet. The right wing features a round-headed window and two openings, one of which is blank and the other has a sash window, positioned above a modillioned cornice and parapet. The main block has three sash windows on the ground floor and two 12-pane sashes on the upper floors, with a blind central opening and shutters on all the sashes. The second floor is adorned with a string course, modillioned cornice, and parapet, and there are end stacks on both piles of the main block. Notably, Charlotte Yonge, the authoress, was born here and lived in the house.
