Description

Langtons is a house dating to circa 1760, with additions and alterations from the early and late 19th century. The house is constructed of brick and rendered walls, with a tile roof. The north front is symmetrical, featuring three storeys and a 2.1.2-window arrangement. Later projecting single-storeyed wings flank the main block; the eastern wing functions as a screen, while the western wing serves as a service block. The brick facade incorporates blue headers, red flush dressings, vertical flush panels, rubbed flat arches, first and second floor bands, and a plinth. Stone detailing includes coping to the parapet, a moulded cornice with small modillions, cills, and a keystone to the central first-floor Venetian light. Sashes are set within reveals. A Doric doorcase, featuring an open pediment, cornice broken above double fluted pilasters, three triglyphs, an arched opening with keystone, radiating fanlight, and a six-panelled door accessed via stone steps, provides the main entrance. The projecting wings are rendered, with a parapet, cornice, plain pilasters, and a high plinth; the western wing has three sash windows, while the eastern wing includes a trellis infilling between square columns. The rear elevation, with five irregular windows, has a hipped tile roof, brick dentil eaves, rendered walling, first and second floor bands, and sashes in reveals, with deep openings to the ground floor. Attached single-storeyed wings project on either side of the rear, with a Venetian opening to French doors on one side. Internally, the house retains some early details including marble fireplaces, plaster ceiling cornices, and doors.
