Description
No 42 is a house located on Broad Street in New Alresford, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stucco and features a tiled roof. The symmetrical front faces west and consists of two storeys and an attic, with three windows. There are two hip-roofed dormers that contain casement windows, and the eaves are supported by wrought-iron spaced brackets. The walling is plain and includes a plinth. The windows are three-light sashes, although the central window has been filled in. The doorcase is adorned with a Greek-style pediment that features unusual dentils, double-scroll brackets, and reeded panelling that forms an architrave with angle blocks and panelled reveals. The entrance has a six-panelled door. On the south side, there is a later two-storeyed wing that fills the space up to No 40, which includes a carriage entrance, one Victorian sash window, and a slate roof.
