Description
Avebury House, located at 6 St Peter Street, was built in 1833 and is a Grade I listed building. It features two storeys and an attic, with red brick walls accented by blue headers at the first floor level and a stone and flint base. The eaves cornice is adorned with modillions. The central part of the house is set back, flanked by projecting wings, with the south wing dating from the 18th century. The facade includes five windows with flush frames, and there is a fine late 18th-century central doorway that is pedimented and flanked by Tuscan columns with decorative enrichments. Simple iron railings lead up to the steps, which are complemented by a six-panel door with panelled reveals. The house also features sash windows with glazing bars and five gabled dormers. Additionally, there are two insurance plaques on the building. Avebury House is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 9 (consecutive), the Royal Hotel and garden wall, and Nos 22 and 23.
