Description
Waltham Mill House is a house situated alongside a water mill, dating to the mid-18th century. The north-east front is symmetrical with three storeys and five windows. It features brick walls constructed in a header bond pattern, and a tiled roof with a double pile. The facade has a plinth, bands marking the first and second floors, rubbed flat arches, a moulded and dentilled brick cornice to the parapet, stone coping, and stone cills. Sashes are set in reveals. A two-column, two-pilaster porch in the full Doric order, including mutules and triglyphs, stands at the centre, topped with a segmental pediment containing a panelled soffit, an eared architrave, and panelled reveals. A seven-panelled door is set behind, accessed by seven stone steps.
An early 19th-century wing adjoins the south-east side; it appears single-storied but comprises two storeys on a lower ground level and has brick walls in a Flemish bond with blue headers, a tiled roof with brick dentil eaves. A late 19th-century single-storied wing extends from the north-west side, notable for its prominent tiled roof featuring scalloped bands. The rear, south-west elevation of the main block is symmetrical with three storeys and three windows. Its walls are constructed with blue headers and flush red quoins, it has first and second-floor bands, rubbed flat arches, sashes in reveals, and a central doorway enclosed within a half-glazed porch with a tiled roof.
