Description

This building, originally built as militia stores within the Peninsula Barracks in 1854, has undergone later 19th-century extensions and was converted to residential use after 1994. It is constructed of English bond red brick with vitrified brick headers, a brick band at first-floor level, rusticated brick quoins, and a moulded brick eaves cornice. The roof is slate, with gabled ends, and features brick lateral stacks. The rectangular building has a small, later 19th-century outshut on its south end. It is two storeys tall and sits on a tall plinth, with an asymmetrical six-window front. The windows are twelve-pane sashes, with flat brick arches on the ground floor, and smaller, near-square sashes on the first floor. A lateral brick stack slightly projects to the right of centre. Later insertions include three smaller sashes on the ground floor, a doorway on the right side of the first floor, and associated fire escape stairs. Oculus windows are located in the gable ends, and the south end features a small, later 19th-century brick outshut. The interior remains uninspected.
