Description

This is an 18th-century building on the east side of Southgate Street. It is an early example of the period, built in 1833. The building is two storeys high, constructed of red brick with blue headers and brick bands, topped with a moulded eaves cornice and an old tile roof. The central first-floor window is set within a brick panel. The symmetrical design includes two projecting wings with mansard roofs, one of which has a dormer window. There are single windows in each wing, and five windows in the central section, along with a central doorway. The windows originally had glazing bars, which have since been removed. They are now fitted with flush window frames and segmental window heads. A pedimented hood, supported by carved consoles, shelters the doorway, which features an eight-panel door with raised and fielded panels. The listed buildings on the east side of Southgate Street are considered to form a group.
