Description

Dowse Cottage and Dowse Room date from 1864, as indicated by a tablet. The building comprises a single-story schoolroom and a two-story, three-bay cottage. The schoolroom is constructed of chequerwork brick and coursed flint, with a plain tile roof. It features a central projecting gabled brick porch with a pointed plank door and dentilled gable. To either side are three-light transomed windows, with cast iron latticed top casements and rubbed brick heads. An iron vent is located in the centre of the roof. The cottage is a two-story, three-bay structure. It has a central six-panel top-lit door, sheltered by an open gabled timber porch. Three-light, segmental-headed casements with cast-iron lattice glazing are present on both floors, with a two-light, similar window above the door. Central and left-end stacks are visible, along with decorated ridge tiles.
