Description

Bossington House is a small country house built around 1840 by John Davies. It features yellow brick and dressed stone with a slate roof that has lead ridges. The house is designed in a five-bay double pile layout, standing two storeys tall with an attic above cellars. The front of the house includes a full-height, projecting central porch, which was likely added later. This porch has a tall, four-centred archway with a cornice above and a string course at the first floor level. The corners of the building are supported by diagonal buttresses.

On the first floor, there are paired sash windows with a mullion between them and rusticated stone quoins. A heavy cornice runs along the flat roof. The original front of the house features slightly projecting bays with thin sash windows on either side of the porch, topped with a Dutch gable that has a two-light mullioned window. The inner bays contain 12-pane sash windows set in stone architraves on each floor, above which is a stone crest with a small Dutch gable. The end bays are also slightly projecting and feature two-storey rectangular bays with triple thin sashes separated by mullions, topped with a stone cornice. Above these bays, there is a two-light mullioned window in the Dutch gable. Additionally, three diamond-shafted stacks are positioned between the bays, set crossways.
