Description
March End is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century, with extensions from the 18th and 20th centuries. It features a timber-frame structure encased in painted brick, topped with a thatched roof. The cottage has two bays and is one and a half stories high, with an 18th-century two-story cross-wing added to one end, along with a 20th-century addition to the rear of this wing and one bay of the original structure. A further 20th-century bay has been added to the other end.
The front of the cottage includes an early 20th-century plank door in the left 16th-century bay, accompanied by a two-light segmental-head leaded casement window beside it, and a similar single-light window in the right 16th-century bay. The left 18th-century cross-wing bay features a plinth and cellar, with a blocked light above a two-light leaded casement window. The 16th-century bays have a two-light leaded casement window in an eyebrow dormer. The roof is half-hipped to the right with a ridge piece and hipped over the cross-wing. There are stacks at each end of the 16th-century building, although the left stack is capped off in the roof space.
