Description

The Old Thatched Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage located on Chalkcroft Lane in Penton Mewsey. It is constructed of flint with brick detailing, and features a thatched roof. The front (west-facing) elevation is symmetrical, displaying a single storey and attic with two windows. The roof is half-hipped, with eaves raised above the windows. A catslide roof extends to the rear, and the north gable exhibits an exposed timber frame. The front wall is flint, featuring brick surrounds to the openings, which contain cambered arches with keys. A brick plinth and broad brick pilasters are visible at each side of the front elevation. Casement windows are present. A small, half-glazed porch was added in the 20th century. The interior walls are timber-framed.
