Description

The Abbey, now Nos. 11-15, is an early 19th century building with an L-shaped footprint, set on different levels and featuring a projecting three-story north-south wing at the east end. The building is constructed of stucco with a slate roof. There are three dormer windows, and a single sash window on the second floor of the projecting bay. The windows are sash windows. On the first floor, No. 11 has a four-pane wide sash window in the projecting bay and a single three-pane wide window in the main wing. No. 13 has three three-pane wide windows on the first floor, positioned at a similar height to those at No. 11. No. 15 has two first-floor windows, one of four panes and one of three panes, at a significantly lower level than those at Nos. 11 and 13. The ground floor of No. 11 has a doorway and one window in the projecting wing. No. 13 has a doorway and two windows, while No. 15 has one modern window and one door. The doorway to No. 11 is situated on the corner where the east-west wing meets the north-south wing, and it features a projecting porch. The porch and door have a reeded frame ornamented with roundels in the corners, a moulded cornice, and a glazed door set in panelled reveals. No. 13 has a much taller, altered C19 doorway, featuring a four-panel door with the top two panes cut away and glazed, and a rectangular fanlight. The doorway also has panelled pilasters with a moulded architrave, a plain frieze, and a moulded rectangular pediment. No. 15 has a door with six moulded panels, the upper four of which are cut away and glazed, within an architrave frame. Traces of a medieval building are present in the cellar of No. 13. Nos. 11 to 27 (odd) form a group.
