Description
St Joseph's Convent is a late 18th-century building that was originally a private house but has been altered over time. It is two storeys high with an attic and constructed of brick, using headers. The building features a modern moulded and dentilled wood cornice and a tiled roof.
On the first floor, there are two four-pane sash windows flanking a central three-pane window. The ground floor has two four-pane windows with rubbed brick arches and keystones, all framed with architraves. The central entrance is a recessed six-panel door, which has two fielded panels, while the upper four panels are cut away and glazed. This door is set in panelled reveals and topped with a rectangular fanlight that has a curved glazing pattern. The doorcase is adorned with fluted Doric pilasters and a moulded and dentilled entablature and cornice. Notably, the building was entirely rebuilt prior to 1947.
