KINGS SOMBORNE MARSHCOURT SU 3533 13/10 S Court in front of S side of house

GV II Walls of S court. 1901-5 by E L Lutyens. Ashlar stone with flint. Court is in front of centre of S front, bounded by projecting E wing, by walk above sunken garden running S from projecting bay and at S by wall on retaining wall above S walk. To W bed with 1m wall retaining it from walkway, but against house 8 steps down to walkway and more steps at S end, Other side has 0.5m retaining wall to bed and higher lawn in front of ballroom, with at far end several steps up to this level. Along S low wall with either end large square beds on part where retaining wall projects further S. In centre of court sun-dial (qv).
