Description

Manor House is a large house located in a small park in Appleshaw, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of stucco and slate and showcases a simple late-Regency classical style. The west elevation is symmetrical, featuring two storeys with a layout of one window, one window, and one window. It has a low-pitched hipped roof with shallow eaves soffit above a moulding. The plain walls include a first-floor band, architraves around the central windows, and a plinth. The central section is slightly set back, with the side windows, which are triple lights, placed within shallow bows. The windows are Victorian sashes set in reveals, with the upper side windows featuring a cornice cill and a decorative low wrought iron rail.

The north elevation, which serves as the entrance, is also symmetrical, with a similar window arrangement of one window, one window, and one window, positioned between chimneys. The upper light is set in a slight recess and has an architrave surround, along with eaves moulding, a first-floor band, and a plinth. The doorway projects slightly and is framed by a simple order of pilasters, leading to a deep recess that contains half-glazed double doors with side glazing.

The south elevation mirrors these features, with a projecting west side and a central recess, displaying a window arrangement of two windows, one window, and two windows, where the middle staircase window interrupts the first-floor band. The rear of the house includes a small lower wing with walls made of flint and brick dressings, displaying irregular fenestration. The interior remains original, featuring a staircase, panelled doors within architraves, and chimney pieces.
