Description
Upper Mill Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a water mill, dating from the late 18th century, with additions from the mid 19th century. It is constructed of brick and tile. The east front features two storeys with three windows on the south side, which was the former mill building, and two storeys with an attic and two windows on the north side, which is the house. There is a single-storeyed north extension from the 19th century. The roof is half-hipped with brick dentil eaves and two small hipped dormers. The brickwork is in Flemish bond with blue headers, and the mill part has cambered openings. The south bay is boarded and built on a timber frame, housing the mill-wheel. The house part has large casement windows on the first floor and splayed bays below. There is a gabled brick porch. The rear of the building has lower extensions from the mid 19th century, featuring gabled slate roofs and brick walls with panels. Some of the mill's driving gear and the wheel remain in place.
