Description
North and South Lodges, gate-piers and gates at Farleigh School are a pair of drive lodges built between 1921 and 1922 by Leonard Stokes, Drysdale and Aylwin. They are constructed from red brick with blue brick panels and feature steeply-pitched hipped roofs covered in plain tiles, topped with an axial brick stack at the apex.
The lodges are designed in a Domestic Revival style and are arranged in a square plan, each with a small fuel store on either side and gates leading to the drive between them. The buildings are single-storey with an attic. The northwest fronts have two small casement windows on the ground floor and a band of six-light casements above in the raised attic storey, which has deep coved eaves. At the center of the attic window, there is a panel displaying arms and the initials C.M.M. and M.M.M., along with the date 1921. All casements feature glazing bars and small panes. The eaves are corbelled brick, and there is a brick stringcourse below.
On the side elevations facing the drive, there is a three-light casement and a brick pilastered doorway with a small moulded canopy and a half-glazed door. At the rear, there is a wide eight-light half-dormer with a flat roof. Each lodge has a small single-storey fuel store on the outer sides.
At the center, there are a pair of stone gate-piers with panelled sides and cornices, flanked by wrought-iron gates featuring scroll decoration, along with brick walls that have moulded coping. The interiors have not been inspected.
