Description
The gate lodges and gates to Camfield Place are a pair of structures located on either side of the entrance gates. They were built in the early to mid-19th century, before the current house, while the gates themselves were added in the 20th century. The lodges are constructed from yellow stock brick and feature slate hipped roofs with central tall chimney stacks. They are single-storey buildings.
The facades facing the drive have flush panel doors with flat hoods supported by scrolled brackets, set in shallow projections. On either side of the doors, there are single recessed sash windows with cambered heads. The road elevation and the L-shaped rear block of the left lodge also have similar windows. The gate piers are made of banded brick and topped with stone vase finials. The wrought iron double gates are adorned with an elaborate overthrow. This lodge and gate combination is an important group along the southern approach to Essendon.
