Description

Woodhill House, originally a small country house dating to circa 1800, is located on Kentish Lane in Hatfield. The main block is constructed of painted stucco with a low-pitched slate roof. A lower service wing on the left incorporates a timber-framed structure, likely from the 17th century or earlier. The front facade has a 1:2:1 window arrangement, with a shallow, projecting central section featuring close-set first-floor windows and a porch with outer paired columns and pilaster responds. The ground floor windows are triple-hung with arched centre lights. Sash windows are present throughout. A pair of half-glazed double doors lead into the house. The rear elevation has a three-window, two-storey bow on the left and a single window on the right. The interior reflects Adam-influenced design, with a segmental-ended entrance hall and a staircase hall featuring a curved staircase with modern railings. The service block incorporates a large red brick stack near the left end and irregularly spaced and sized sash windows, suggesting the refacing of an earlier building.
