Description
Matsford Lodge is a lodge dating from the early 19th century, originally serving Farleigh Castle. It is constructed of Doulting stone and features a double-Roman clay tile roof with coped gables and a central brick chimney stack. The building has a three-storey single window plan and diagonal corner buttresses. The entrance is located on the first floor, centrally positioned in the gable end, and is set under a depressed three-centred stone arch within a projecting stone porch that has a hipped plain clay tile roof. This entrance is accessed by a flight of stone steps and features a four-panel door with two glazed panels. On either side of the entrance are blocked ventilation slits, and above it is a single window. The windows on the building are single-light casements set in stone surrounds, each with a depressed three-centred arch and a dripmould. On the north side, there is a square stone oriel window with two-light casements and a crenelated parapet. At the rear, there is a three-storey extension with a single window, exposed rafters at the eaves, and two-light casement windows in plain stone surrounds, each with relieving arches above.
