Description

Nos 3 to 7 on Palmerston Street are 18th-century buildings that stand two storeys high with an attic and a basement. They are constructed of red brick and feature an old tile roof with three dormer casements. Number 3 projects forward from numbers 5 and 7. The buildings have a cornice with small modillions and a capped parapet. Originally a stable block, it shares the same roof span as numbers 5 and 7.

To the right of number 3, there is a segmental-arched stable door. On the left, a four-panel door is present, with the lower two panels fielded and the upper two glazed, topped by a semi-circular fanlight with rectangular glazing above. There is a double window above this door. Numbers 5 and 7 feature two flat-roofed dormers and a moulded wood eaves cornice. On the first floor, there are three double sash windows, although the central pair is false. The ground floor has two similar windows without glazing bars.

In the centre, there are two six-panel doors set in panelled reveals, flanked and divided by Doric pilasters, with a continuous entablature that breaks forward over the pilasters, all grouped under a large moulded and dentilled parapet. The entrance is approached by four steps, and there are two basement windows. All the listed buildings on Palmerston Street, including numbers 70 to 84 (even) and 47 to 55 (odd) on The Hundred, form a group.
