Description
Numbers 12 and 14 on Cross Street are a symmetrical pair of 18th-century buildings that stand two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, featuring five windows. They have an old tile hipped roof with a moulded dentil eaves that extends around the bays, and the dormers are topped with low-pitched gabled roofs. The walls are made of red brick in header bond, accented with rubbed flat arches and a plinth. The windows are sashes set in reveals, with the outermost ones being two-storeyed wooden bays that rest on a ground floor brick base.
The two doorcases, located between the side bays and a single ground floor window, share an identical design. Each doorcase has a moulded entablature above panelled pilasters, featuring thin moulded architraves that enclose radiating fanlights and six-panelled doors, all accessed by stone steps. The elevation of No 14 continues along New Street, where it concludes with a single-storey outbuilding that has painted brickwork.
