Description
No 104 Church Lane East is a large house built between 1900 and 1910, designed in the style of the architect C.F.A. Voysey, incorporating traditional forms and materials with an Art Nouveau influence. The building has two storeys and an attic, with an asymmetrical road elevation. It features a steep tiled roof with both a large and a small gable, a gabled dormer that is hipped at one end, and a bold projecting chimney stack. The exterior is finished with tile hanging and red brick walling, which includes some patterned work linking a pair of windows. The windows are casements in exposed frames, with the large staircase light showcasing a mullion and transom design, along with square leaded lights. The porch has a simple doorway but an elaborate roof that is half-hipped and half-gabled. The forecourt descends in terraces to a front wall, which is interrupted by piers. This house is a fine example of its period, richly designed and well-preserved.
