Description

These are four 18th-century buildings, numbered 13 to 16, forming a terrace on the west side of Captains’ Row. The facades are of red brick with grey brick headers, although the brick of number 14 has been painted. They have tiled roofs. Each building is two storeys high with an attic, and features a single window and one dormer. The windows are sash windows with intact glazing bars, except for the top two windows in number 13, which do not have glazing bars. The doorways have moulded architraves with flat, bracketed hoods; however, the doorway of number 14 now has a Georgian-style door with a pediment and pilasters. The original doors are six-panelled, with the top two panels glazed, although number 16 has a more modern panelled door. A round-arched entrance gives access to the rear of the properties, located between numbers 14 and 15. The listed buildings on Captains’ Row form a group with Alma Cottage, located on Grove Road.
