Description

An early 19th-century group of buildings forming a unified composition, with a central building flanked by two red brick houses that have a higher roofline.

St Mary's Lodge is red brick with an eaves cornice and a hipped, tiled roof. It is three storeys high with one window. It has sash windows with glazing bars.

Wellington House has a stuccoed facade with a cornice and parapet, and a slate roof. It is three storeys high with a basement, and has three windows. It features sash windows with glazing bars, those on the ground and first floors set in shallow arched recesses. A round arched doorway leads to a six-panel door and radial fanlight.

No. 3 Wellington Place features a painted brick facade with a cornice and parapet, and a slate roof. It is three storeys high with one window, and a central blank section shared with No. 2. It has sash windows with glazing bars, those on the first floor set in shallow arched recesses. A garage occupies the ground floor; the door is a reproduction.

It has sash windows with glazing bars, those on the ground and first floors set in shallow arched recesses, and a round arched doorway.

No. 1 Wellington Place is red brick with an eaves cornice and a hipped, tiled roof. It is three storeys high with two windows, both having sash windows with glazing bars – one modern, the other a shop front converted to a garage. A two-storey, one-window wing has been rebuilt or added to the north.

The listed buildings of Captains’ Row form a group with Alma Cottage, Grove Road.
