Description
Apple Tree Cottage and Harolds Cottage are a pair of cottages, originally one dwelling, dating from the 17th century with alterations in the 18th and 20th centuries. The central core is timber-framed, now encased in brick and cob, with later 20th-century brick additions. The roof is now pantiled, but was once thatched. The building is three bays long with a projecting, two-storey bay added in the 20th century to the left-hand side. The front facade has a door positioned between the right-hand and central bays, with sloping buttresses and a flat hood over the doorway. A further door is present in the 20th-century bay. Each of the original bays features a two-light casement window. A pent-roofed dormer with a two or three-light casement window sits over all but the right-hand and 20th-century bays. Chimneys are located at the right-hand end, over the left-hand and central bays, and at the end of the 20th-century bay. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
