Description

The listed buildings comprise a pair of cottages, Bridge Farmhouse and Old Post Office, and a separate cottage, Weir Cottage, all situated near Ibsley, alongside the A338.

Bridge Farmhouse and Old Post Office date to the early 19th century and have undergone alterations. They are built of red brick in a stretcher bond pattern with a thatched roof. The cottages are of 1½ storeys and two bays each. Each cottage features a central boarded door sheltered by a hipped thatched hood supported by wooden posts. Flanking the doors are windows with three segmental-headed lights, chamfered wood mullions, and stucco hood moulds. Above, similar two-light windows are set within eyebrow dormers. The windows have diamond-leaded casements. The roof is hipped, with a diagonally-set ridge stack and an external stack at the right-hand end. A single-storey addition has been made to the left side of Bridge Farmhouse.

Weir Cottage is a later building, dating to the late 15th century and 17th century, with alterations in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill and a thatched roof. The cottage is of 1½ storeys and originally consisted of three bays and a smoke bay, later with an added hip bay. The front features a plank door under a swept-down hood located in the second bay from the left. C19 or C20 three-light casements are present in each bay. The smoke bay is now centrally placed with a hip bay to the right. Eyebrow dormers with two lights are above the left-hand bays. The roof is half-hipped to the left and hipped to the right. There is a stack above the bay and another at the right-hand end of the ridge.
