Description

Harbridge School and Schoolhouse is a building dating from around 1873, serving as both a school and the master's house. It is constructed from stretcher and Flemish bond red brick, featuring yellow brick dressings, and has a clay plain tile roof with gable ends, pierced shaped bargeboards, and crested ridge tiles. The building has a rendered brick lateral stack with set-offs and is designed in a picturesque Gothic style.

The structure is T-shaped, with the schoolroom located to the northwest and the master's house forming a cross-wing at the southeast end. The exterior includes a single-storey and two-storey house with an asymmetrical southwest front. The master's house is in a gabled cross-wing on the right, featuring a square brick bay window on the ground floor with a tiled canopy, and a three-light pointed arch window with wooden mullions and glazing bars. To the left, the school has two similar two-light windows, with a gable in the angle between that includes a large two-light pointed arch window. There is a gabled porch on the left with a pointed arch doorway and plank double doors. The northwest end gable has a large three-light pointed arch window with intersecting tracery, and the glazing bars of the windows are intact. A fleche is positioned over the school roof.

On the southeast elevation of the master's house, there is a gable on the right with a square brick bay window on the ground floor, a two-light pointed arch window, and a doorway to the left with a tiled canopy. Above the doorway, there is a gabled half-dormer with a pointed arch window. Additionally, there is a small outhouse on the northeast side of the house. Inside, the schoolroom features a ceiled hammerbeam roof.
