Description

House. Dating from the early 18th century, Southend House was extended in the late 18th century and refronted in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of brick, with the ground floor painted and the upper floors finished with rough-cast and a false framing effect. It has an old plain tile roof. The main structure is two storeys and three bays, with a bay added to the right-hand end.

The original central bay features a top-lit six-panel door within a timber doorcase, which includes pilasters supporting a moulded, slightly projecting hood. Each bay originally contained 16-pane sashes, but the lower sashes were replaced in the 19th century. The sashes in the added bay are narrower. Above the door is a 12-pane sash, with a 19th-century replacement lower sash. A projecting band runs along the first-floor level. Chimneys are situated on the ridge at each end of the original section and at the right-hand end.
