Description
This tomb chest, located immediately south of the nave of the Church of St Mary, dates from the late 17th century. It is made of stone and sits on a low base. The large flat stone is inscribed in memory of Dame Alice Lisle and her daughter, who died in 1685 and 1702, respectively. Dame Alice Lisle was executed by Judge Jeffries for providing refuge to men from the Duke of Monmouth's army who were fleeing after the Battle of Sedgemoor.
