Description
The wall to the lower terrace on the south and east sides of Somerley Park House is a Grade II listed retaining wall featuring steps. Constructed of brick with stone coping, it includes decorative vases and balustrading. To the south of the house, the wall begins at a change of direction of the upper terrace, extending south and then east, approximately 50 meters from the house. It bows around a fountain, with a flight of steps located in the middle of the bow, situated 30 meters south-south-east of the picture gallery. The wall then turns north, running parallel to the east front and continuing alongside a walkway for a total length of 120 meters. It has piers at 4-meter intervals, each topped with vases. There is a wide flight of five steps with larger vases on either side at the top. The eastern section of the wall is topped with a balustrade that features similar piers and vases.
