Description

Blacksmith's Bridge, built in 1792, is a Grade II listed structure located over the Basingstoke Canal in Dogmersfield. It features a standard design with a single cambered arch that spans both the waterway and the towpath. The bridge is constructed of red brick in English bond, with a projecting band that follows the slightly cambered roadway. The parapet walls end in square piers topped with plain stone caps. The overall plan of the bridge is curved, with the narrowest point at the center and straight cutwaters on either side. An oval metal plaque on the bridge indicates that it was built in 1792 and restored in 1976 by the Surrey and Hampshire Canal Society and the Inland Waterways Association. The recent renovation included the restoration of the parapet walls.
