Description
The Vicarage is a building dating from around 1500, with 18th and 19th century alterations. Originally an open medieval hall with cross wings, it is now a two-storey timber-framed house featuring later additions and extensions. The front (south) elevation has a steep red tile roof with gables on either side, a middle shafted stack towards the west, and a large 17th-century chimney breast that tapers upwards at the east end.
The frame is exposed on the ground floor of the east side, showcasing heavy close studding with brick nogging. The upper part of the east gable and the middle section are tile-hung, while the west gable is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring cambered openings and a plinth. The middle section has earlier brickwork in English bond with a high plinth. A rear gable includes some tile-hanging and brick walling with bands and a plinth at two levels.
The building has a variety of windows, including half-dormers, an old mullioned and transomed light at the rear, mostly modern casements, and two sash windows in a ground-floor brick-walled bay at the west end. The rear features later two-storey extensions from around 1820, which have slate roofing and rendered walls, culminating in single-storey outshots with hipped tile roofs.
