Description
The former stables to Hawley Park House, now part of the Hawley Equitation Centre, are a late 18th century structure designed around a courtyard. This imposing range is built of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring some stone dressings and a tiled roof. The northwest front has a central projecting pediment that includes a decorative clock. It is accented by stone quoins and a pedimented doorcase flanked by engaged Tuscan columns. Above the pediment, there is a square wooden cupola with segmental arches that have keystones, an ogee top, and a metal weathervane. Each wing of the building features two Diocletian windows. The northeast front also has a central projecting pediment, which contains a wooden louvred semi-circular opening and a round-headed arch with wide winpost blocks. Diocletian windows are located on either side, with an additional one at each end in a projecting hipped pavilion. The courtyard showcases arcading with original stall partitions behind.
