Description

Railway Inn and Spring Garden Cottage is an early 19th-century building located at the corner of Forton Road on Spring Garden Lane. The structure has three storeys, which drop to two on the Forton Road side, and features three windows. It has a slate roof with inter-locking tiles, hipped at the corner, and a brick eaves band with coupled dentils. The yellow brickwork is laid in Flemish bond, with the northern end and return painted, and it has flat arches. The windows are sash style, with a two-storeyed bay to the south and a bay on the first and second floors to the right. The corner facing Forton Road showcases an elaborate pub front with a coarse classical pilastered design, supported by cast iron columns that provide intermediate support to the two and three-light windows. The facade also includes a panelled dado and plinth, with the entrance located at the corner angle.
