Description
1 East Street is an early 19th-century building located on the north side of East Street in Fareham. It features a rendered facade with a decorative band at the second floor, a cornice, and a parapet. The building stands three storeys tall and has one window with moulded architraves on the ground floor, a barred sash window on the second floor, and a French casement window with a label above it on the first floor. The shop front, which has been altered in the 19th century, includes a cornice, end stops, pilasters, and a corner entrance. The elevation facing East Street has three windows, with the central first and second floors being blank. There are bands at the first and second floors, and a cast iron balcony is located behind a notice board. This house marks the end of the view down West Street. Together with Nos 1 to 13 (odd), Surgery and Fareham House, it forms a group with Nos 10 and 12 and the Red Lion. The Surgery is noted as a building of local interest.
