Description

Netley Castle, Abbots Lodge is a late 19th-century romantic cottage situated on Hounds Abbey Hill. The building is two stories high, with a rear attic dormer. Its entrance is at the upper level of the western gable, accessed from the higher ground of the driveway. The roof is tiled with red tiles, featuring large and small gables adorned with scalloped bargeboards. A massive chimney stack with triple flues, the outer flue set diagonally on a stepped base, is a prominent feature. The walls are of stone rubble, with irregular facades, except for the symmetrical western gable, which has an open entrance porch. The porch’s gabled roof is supported by a rustic framework of branches.
