Description

Netley Railway Station, dating to circa 1867, is a symmetrical building designed in a classical style reminiscent of the work of Tite, who created earlier stations in the area such as Eastleigh, Gosport, and Southampton. The station has a two-storied front with a 2.3.2 window arrangement, flanked by single-storied wings. It features slate hipped roofing with wide eaves supported by brackets, stucco walling, projecting quoins, a band above the first floor on the main wings, a plinth, architraves to the windows, and cills on brackets. The upper windows are cambered, while the side windows are square. The recessed central section has a triple arcade on the ground floor, with a moulding extending along the impost level, and recessed arched openings containing a window on either side of a central doorway. Prominent chimneys feature cornices, bands, and plinths. The building remains virtually unaltered.
