Description
Rooks Cottage is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with a late 18th-century exterior and some minor 20th-century rear additions and restoration. It features stone walls and a tiled roof. The structure has a timber frame consisting of two bays, with a 17th-century stack added at the east end, which is now enclosed by the later recladding of the walls. The symmetrical front has two storeys and an attic, with three windows. The roof is plain, with end gables that are tile-hung and a catslide at the rear, along with two hipped dormers above one at the back. The walls are made of coursed stone with galletted joints and brick dressings, including quoins, a first-floor band, cambered ground floor openings with flat extrados, and a plinth. The windows are casements, with one featuring an old oak frame. There is a small 20th-century gable porch, and above the doorway, there is a small stone plaque that is incised with the year 1620. Inside, much of the frame is exposed, and the rooms are lined with vertical pinewood panelling.
