Description

No. 1 Moorhouse and No. 2 Farmhouse are a house of early 17th-century origin, with alterations in the early 20th century. The building consists of a tall east-west block, accompanied by a lower north side wing. It has two storeys and an attic, displaying one window on the gabled elevations, and one storey and attic with irregular window placement. The roof is plain. The upper walls reveal a substantial timber frame with brick infilling—some of this brickwork is a 20th-century herringbone pattern. The ground floor is brickwork above a cement plinth. Notable features include two massive, tapered stacks on the south elevation, characterized by shafted flues, offsets, a plinth, and a blue diaper pattern. The windows are 20th-century casements, and the doorway is plain. The north extension is distinguished by its tile roof, some tile hanging on the upper walls, and brick walls, incorporating casements that reflect the vernacular style of the 1900s.
